Word Work with a Spin

Word Work ... Again!

We do word work in small groups about once a week! This is a chance for me to work with kids who need a little more push in spelling! I create the cards they will need each weekend depending on the kids' needs. The terms I use are given AFTER a base word is created. Then I say the following:

Make the word truck.
(Students make word)
Break it.
(Students break the word by sounds so in 'truck' ck would go together.")
Sound it.
(Student points at each sound and say them aloud.)
Make it.
(Students put the cards back together to form the word)
Say it.
("Truck")
Now, change one letter to make the word 'track.'
(Students exchange the 'u' for an 'a')
Break it.
(Students break the word by sounds so in 'truck' ck would go together.")
Sound it.
(Student points at each sound and say them aloud.)
Make it.
(Students put the cards back together to form the word)
Say it.
("track")

Then repeat as many times as needed.
Here are the pictures of our word work!!!
